After reading the first five scenes of “The Glass Menagerie,” I noticed how much pressure society puts on men. The men are suppose to be the people who support the family and become that stable factor in a woman’s life. On page 8, when Amanda explains to her children about all the gentlemen callers she received, it made me realize how the men are responsible for approaching the women in that situation. After reading, I noticed a certain pattern throughout, Amanda always talked about the men approaching Laura. That just shows how their society views women.
One character that had a major flaw that affected the people around her was Amanda. Amanda’s controlling nature almost pushed Tom to the edge. She was controlling everything around her and he was getting frustrated with it. One moment that stood out to me the most was on page 6, when Amanda was criticizing Tom on how he ate. Then when he tried to excuse himself for a cigarette, she criticized that too. It just a pattern throughout the first five scenes, Amanda’s controlling nature. In scene 4, page 36, she tried to get Tom to set his sister, Laura, up with someone from the warehouse, where he worked. I have a feeling Laura isn't going to like this idea when the man comes over and blind sides her, but her mother couldn’t care less. Amanda just wants her children to be happy, but doesn’t go about it in the right way.
I chose this picture because I feel like it shows how sometimes Amanda's controlling nature affects the people around her. This image reminds me if the time Amanda almost pushed Tom to the edge and almost made him storm out of the house.

In some ways, I agree with you saying Amanda wants her children to be happy but doesn't go about it in the right way. But, then i disagree. I feel as though Amanda is pushing this life for her children, because shes tired of supporting them. She wants her daughter to get married so the husband can take of her. And she wants Tom to go to college and keep working so that she can live in her home (since he provides money for the bills). Amanda comes off as very stressed and over pushy because she has a daughter who is disabled, a son who wants to chase his dreams, and a husband who has been gone for 16 years.
